Benefits of membership with MCC

Membership in the Manitoba Craft Council is open to anyone who is passionate about contemporary craft. Whether you’re a maker or an enthusiastic supporter, it’s a great way to connect with Manitoba’s thriving craft scene and keep up with all the latest happenings.

All members receive the bi-weekly e-news bulletin with the most current news and information on events and opportunities in contemporary craft. Membership also includes access to a range of exhibition and sales opportunities, professional development workshops, artist talks, an online gallery page at c2centreforcraft.ca and a subscription to Studio: Craft and Design in Canada.

We have several membership categories, which are laid out in more detail below!

 

Professional Membership:

For active craftspeople and artists who work in contemporary craft and are looking to advance their careers.

Manitoba or Northwestern Ontario residency required.

Fee: $50

Benefits:

Exclusive opportunities to exhibit, market, and sell your work:

  • For the Love of Craft, MCC Bi-Annual Open Members’ Exhibition (all submissions accepted)
  • Create a personal online gallery at c2centreforcraft.ca
  • Create a personal online gallery at citizensofcraft.ca
  • All members are eligible to apply for: C2 Shop and C2 Shop Online, Solo, duo or small group exhibitions at C2’s Shirley Richardson Craft Gallery, Annual Crafted Sale at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (and receive a $30 discount on your table fee), MCC’s Bi-Annual Juried Members’ Exhibition

Professional development and award opportunities:

  • MCC Bursary Award for professional development activities, awarded annually
  • Victoria Beach Retreats, awarded annually
  • Grow your practice through workshops on grant-writing, applying for exhibitions,
  • engaging social media, etc.
  • Marilyn Levitt Award for Early-Mid Career Functional Ceramics, awarded bi-annually, Judith Ryan Award for Best in Show, awarded bi-annually as part of the Juried Members’ Exhibition
  • occasional mentorship and collaboration opportunities

Teaching and knowledge sharing opportunities:

  • Presenting artist talks and panel discussions, in person and online
  • Instructing hands-on workshops, in person and online
  • Offering craft demonstrations at public events

Networking, information, and support:

  • Bi-weekly member e-newsletter featuring upcoming exhibitions and events, member updates, and calls for submission.
  • One year subscription to Studio, Canada’s national craft and design magazine.
  • Promote your exhibitions, sales, or events through MCC’s social media and
  • E-newsletter
  • Reference letters for grants or award nominations
  • Access one-to-one advice and support for grant or proposal writing, career development, etc.

Joint MCC/MCML Membership

For those who wish to combine a Professional MCC membership with the additional benefits of being a member of the Manitoba Crafts Museum & Library.

Manitoba residency required.

Fee: $90 (a $10 savings on the cost of purchasing both memberships individually)

In addition to the benefits of an MCC Professional membership, you’ll receive the following:

  • Borrowing privileges at the MCML library
  • MCML’s bi-weekly e-newsletter
  • Special member rate at MCML workshops
  • A vote at MCML’s Annual General Meeting

Student and Young Emerging Artist Membership: for university or college students and young emerging artists (age 25 years and under) working in craft

Fee: $30/year

Manitoba residency or “home-base” (if studying abroad) required.

Friend of MCC Membership

 For supporters and appreciators of contemporary craft or artists living outside of Manitoba who wish to maintain a connection with this province’s craft community and apply for occasional opportunities.

Fee: $30

Benefits:

Eligibility to apply for opportunities that are open to non-Manitoba residents including:

  • Solo, duo or small group exhibitions at C2’s Shirley Richardson Craft Gallery
  • Annual Crafted Sale at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (and receive a discount on your table fee)
  • Presenting artist talks and panel discussions, online
  • Instructing hands-on workshops, online

Stay in the Loop with:
