I first met Jo’anne Kelly early on in my time with the Manitoba Craft Council. She was part of the first juried exhibition I organized back in 2009, Craft: Culture/Counterculture. I often find myself passing by her house while out running, and I take note of the “Kelly Art Objects” sign out front. The short video here gives a glimpse into the home and studio beyond the sign, and into Jo’anne’s work as well.
Like many MCC members, Jo’anne has had a long history with the organization and with her craft media: ceramics and textiles. Below is an undated photo of Jo’anne giving a demonstration of some of her techniques to visitors.
The write up below comes from the days when the MCC had a shop at 390 Academy.
Jo’anne is still actively making and exhibiting in Winnipeg. You can find out more about her current work here.
