JoAnna Lange’s name was new to me when I pulled her file out of the MCC archives this week. I was struck by the visceral nature of her work. It seemed to pay homage to ancient aesthetic traditions, straddling the line between the contemporary and the archeological.
A little online research led me to Stoneboat Pottery, JoAnna’s current business out of Edmonton, Alberta. She continues to travel to Manitoba craft sales with her work, so some of you may be familiar with her current practice in that way. Others may remember her through her work teaching in Winnipeg with the department of Leisure and Recreation. If you’re looking for her work in Manitoba, you’ll find it at the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Shop.
