Flashback Friday :: Tribute to Ron Rempel

As some of you may already be aware, the Manitoba craft community lost one of its well-respected and long standing members this past week, jewellery and glass artist Ron Rempel.

Often working in non-traditional materials when creating his jewellery pieces, Ron’s design sense ran the gamut from clean modernist lines to the rough edges of steampunk, with a dash of folk art thrown in now and again.  In all cases, his work was meticulously crafted, original, fun, and very appealing to buyers and admirers.
Ron sold his work through the Manitoba Craft Council shop prior to its closure in 2006, at Poor Michael’s Bookstore in Onanole, MB and was a regular artist-vendor at the Winnipeg Folk Festival.  I recently discovered that Ron also had work in the collection of the prestigious V & A Museum in London, England.
Below is a little piece from the MCC archives about Ron and his artistic vision.
