From Bullseye Glass
Students working in kilnformed glass enter Emerge 2014.
We’re pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for your students working in kilnformed glass: Emerge 2014.
This biennial juried kiln-glass competition—our eighth since 2000—can provide a career steppingstone for students and intermediate-level artists not represented by major galleries.
By entering Emerge 2014, your students have the chance to:
- Learn professional practices such as meeting exhibition deadlines, photographing and shipping glass artwork, and writing CVs and artist statements.
- Show their work at Bullseye Gallery, in Portland, Oregon. (Some winners will be included in a national touring exhibition).
- Have their artwork documented in a beautifully produced, full-color exhibition catalog.
- Compete for one or more of nine prizes—totaling over $6,000 in Bullseye Glass Company gift cards and conference scholarships.
- Be sought out by galleries looking for new artists to exhibit.
Emerge is the primary way we identify rising talent in kiln-glass. One example is Karen Mahardy, who recently received her MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. After winning both Academic and Newcomer awards in Emerge 2012, her work was included in Emerge/Evolve—an exhibit that traveled to the New Mexico Museum of Art and later to Bullseye Resource Center Bay Area Gallery—before eventually becoming part of one of the most significant private collections on the West Coast. Earlier this month, Mahardy was a featured artist in Bullseye Gallery’s Graduated Glass exhibition at SOFA Chicago 2013. View some of her work.
Jurors for Emerge 2014 are Kathleen Moles, Emily Nachison, and James Yood.
Emerge applications will be accepted online until 5pm Pacific on December 6, 2013. Students and qualifying instructors may apply. For details and rules, visit bullseyeglass.com/emerge
