MCC Presents :: First Fridays in the Exchange
Featuring Sharon Loeppky
Opening on Friday, June 6, 5-9 pm
Manitoba Craft Council office – 553-70 Arthur St.
Work on display until June 27, 2014.
About her art practice, Sharon writes:
Both my home and workshop are on the bank of a small creek that cuts down through the escarpment and heads east on the prairie south of Morden MB. The quiet of the woods and fields helps remove the clutter from my mind and keeps me focused on my work. Most of this work is ceramic mosaic, and at the moment I am concentrating on landscape.
My art springs from the urges in my life. I have a compulsion to save scraps. I am preoccupied with puzzles. I need to wander, and I search for God in the open spaces. These landscapes document the world immediately around me – the view I see from a doorway, from the path behind our house, or from the road leading up the escarpment. Like the many colorful scraps they are composed of, they are glimpses of color, light and pattern to be quietly savored.
First Fridays in the Exchange is dedicated to bringing together artists, artist run centres, galleries, businesses and the public for a greater understanding, appreciation and promotion of the arts and the further development of a vital Exchange Area community. See the full listings here.
