David Jacob Epp’s Turkey, a carving in wood, is number 10 in our countdown to the Backspace Forward juried exhibition. Epp made copious amounts of wood carvings, usually with a piece of natural wood as the base. He specialized in birds. Born in Russia in 1905, he immigrated to Canada in 1923, and worked in Manitoba and Saskatchewan for about 20 years before settling permanently in Winnipeg. He sold his carvings through the Guild Shop for many years. This carving is thought to have been completed in the 1950s.
