What is Craft Year?
We at the Canadian Craft Federation/ Fédération Canadienne des Métiers d’Art are pleased to invite you to join us as we set the stage for Craft Year 2015, a year-long, nation-wide festival aimed at promoting awareness of craft in Canada. The events for this festival can range from exhibitions, fairs, performance pieces to book launches, articles, social media initiatives, community events and more. If your event or initiative is related to craft, it can be registered as part of Craft Year. To participate in this festival, you can rebrand already planned craft events or take this opportunity to plan special activities that promote craft as a key player in Canadian culture. It’s a great time to partner with other individuals and organizations in your community, or launch that new project you’ve been imagining.
Our first Craft Year in 2007 was deemed an international blockbuster hit with an unprecedented 712 events. This success gained the attention of many craft organizations from around the world, leading to expanded high profile activity such as the invitation to Canada to be the special guest country at the 2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Cheongju, South Korea.
