The Sobey Art Award, Canada’s pre-eminent award for contemporary Canadian art, was created in 2002 by the Sobey Art Foundation. It is an annual prize given to an artist age 40 or under who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated. In addition to the $50,000 prize awarded to the winner of the Sobey Art Award, additional funding has been allocated this year to increase the award to each of the four short listed artists to $10,000 and to introduce a $500 award to each of the remaining long listed artists.
A panel of curatorial advisors, consisting of a representative from a noted gallery in each of five regions (the Atlantic provinces, Québec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, and the West Coast and \Yukon) develops the shortlist for the Sobey Art Award. The curatorial panel creates a list of five artists from each region; these are selected from the list of nominated artists, and based on their professional knowledge of their regions and of the national art scene. The curatorial panel then meets and chooses one representative from each region to be included on the national shortlist. The panel will choose the winner of the Sobey Art Award in October 2015 to be announced during a gala event at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will accept nominations for the 2015 Sobey Art Award from recognized agents, artists, and institutions. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia will notify the sender by email on the status of the nomination(s) upon being received.

All application materials must be received at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia at or before 5:00 p.m. (A.S.T.) on Friday, February 27, 2015.

Submissions will be accepted via large file transfer OR CD, DVD, or USB drive. All forms must be saved and submitted in digital format, please do not send hard copies. The 2015 Nomination Form PDF allows for secure signatures from both the nominator and artist nominee(s). Application materials (images, forms and letters) may be saved to a CD, DVD, or USB drive and mailed in an envelope no large r than 6” x 8” or you may submit all of these materials digitally to:

Hard copy materials may be returned upon nominator’s request by including a self-addressed envelope in the nomination package.
