Of her work, Lisa writes: I am an artist interested in concepts of domesticity, tradition and function. I execute my work using primarily traditional methods of craft such as rug making, paper making and hand building in clay. My studies at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art have given my practice both conceptual and technical grounding. While my work can be categorized as functional, I endeavor to create thoughtful, delicate pieces that bring texture and form to their surroundings, whether that be the home or the gallery.
Bio: In 2010 Lisa Schroeder enrolled in the School of Art at the University of Manitoba. During her time as a student, Lisa won an Undergraduate Research Award and under Elizabeth Roy’s tutelage, learned techniques of needle felting while assisting in Roy’s project ‘Smashing Dishes’. Lisa also spent time establishing and working with the paper making facilities at the School of Art. Her thesis piece ‘13 and Unconscious‘ travelled to Montreal to be apart of a group show called Fresh Paint: New Constructions. Graduating with her BFA (hons.), Lisa has begun her own artistic practice making textile, paper and ceramic objects.
