It’s time for a Good Ol’ Manitoba Social – a Good Ol’ Manitoba Craft Social that is! The Manitoba Craft Council and the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library are thrilled to be announcing their partnership on developing a new hub for Craft in Manitoba. Doesn’t every “marriage” need a “wedding social”? And so, the Craft Social is born. Mark your calendars on April 9th to get your Craft on for an evening of fun activity booths, a craft auction, music, food, and dancing – the perfect way to celebrate and support Craft in our province. Funds raised will go to help the two organizations with the renovation of space for the new Craft hub. So get ready to celebrate this unique partnership and raise some cash for Craft.
Over the next few weeks you will see calls for engagement with this event.
During the Craft Social we will be hosting 5-7 fun activity booths conceptualized and run by volunteers. We are seeking proposals from members of the Manitoba Craft Council and the Manitoba Craft Museum and Library, and the wider community, for booths that will raise funds for the Craft hub project.
Do you love telling people’s fortunes? Set up a fortune telling booth.
Or maybe you and your group of friends compete over who makes the best pie, and you want to have a booth where people buy slices of your pie and vote on the best one.
Want to share your knowledge? Teach five-minute classes on writing an artist statement, the benefits of gem stones, a short history of 17th c. tapestries.
You might want to host a how to booth: how to make a beaded bracelet, beginner embroidery, how to make an origami crane.
But what we really expect is that you will have exciting ideas we haven’t thought of. Get creative and propose away!
The goal of the booths is to:
1. provide fun activities to engage social goers
2. generate additional revenue for the Craft hub.
Visitors to your booth will buy tickets to present to you in exchange for your “service.” Tickets will be sold for $1 each at a central station and you can set the value of your activity (eg. 5 tickets for your 8 layer chocolate torte!)
The Manitoba Craft Council and the Manitoba Craft Museum and Library will provide:
A banquet table
Two chairs
Volunteer support if needed and available
In your proposal please include:
A paragraph describing what your booth will offer
Any support you may need to run your booth
The cost to visitors associated with what you are offering (between $1 to $5)
Please send your submission to [email protected] by March 2, 2016 at midnight.
As we have limited space, we will have a small committee look over proposals and inform you by March 4th if your booth proposal has been accepted.
