RESIDENCY: C.R.E.T.A. ROME

Residency in Rome’s vibrant center

Our international residencies for ceramicists, visual artists and writers include a semi-private equipped studio, accommodation in the historical center of Rome, and technical assistance in procuring materials for your work, firings, etc., advice on museums, galleries and sites in Rome and beyond. The final group show gives artists an opportunity to exhibit their work produced during the residency. Optional excursions to museums, sites in Rome and Italy may also be arranged.

We are also offering a residency in the countryside near Anguillara. See the separate sub-page for more information or contact us.

Shared studios are provided in newly renovated space in a mid 16th-century palace in the Jewish quarter of Rome, just blocks from the Capitoline hill. Artists will have access to the studios 24 hours  per day, 7 days per week. Both internet and printing/scanning facilities as well as a basic kitchen are available.

Each resident is given a semi-private studio. There are individual work tables and shelving units. There are electric kilns and wheels for ceramicists plus a broad range of equipment for working with clay. We will arrange for all the material which you require to be delivered to the studio and provide technical advice in glazing, firing, etc. The cost of the firings and materials will be charged based on our actual costs with no additional charges. We have a 100lt low-fire kiln (1100C) and a high-fire 60lt kiln (1320C).

Housing is provided in the historical centre of Rome or across the river in Trastevere, within 15 minutes walking distance of the creta rome studios and are well connected to public transportation. The apartments give artists an opportunity to experience a typical Italian neighborhood, as well as to discover all the best places for pasta, pastries, and gelato.

Housing is completely furnished with linens, blankets, and pillows. Public transportation, supermarkets, laundry services, and inexpensive restaurants are all within easy access. Residents are not allowed to have overnight guests. In our studio in the countryside, spouses/partners are allowed.

Artists are asked to submit a proposal to participate in the final group exhibition at the end of each residency session to showcase their work produced during the residency. Media promotion of the event will be provided and postcard-size invites.
