Upcoming summer the glass centre GlazenHuis (Lommel, Belgium) is organizing three short residencies for hot glass.
Artists who apply can choose between two types of residencies. TYPE A is a production residency ‘awards’ and TYPE B is a residency with the focus on the creation of new work. Artists who apply can indicate which type of residency and which period(s) they prefer.
Periods: Period 1: 20 July – 26 July 2016 (arrival on Tuesday 19 July 2016)
Period 2: 27 July – 2 August 2016 (arrival on Tuesday 26 July 2016) Period3: 3 August – 9 August 2016 (arrival on Tuesday 2 August 2016)
During the first five days of your residency you will have full access to the hot studio and you will be able to rely on a resident assistant glassblower. During the last two days of the residency you will have full access to the cold-working facilities.
TYPE A
PRODUCTION RESIDENCY ‘AWARDS’
The goal of this one-week production residency is to invite experienced glassblowers with designing skills at our glass studio to produce glass products in various price ranges that can be used as trophies or awards. The products can be free-blown or mould-blown, hot sculpted or even hot casted.
Stipend: Next to free lodging, including a rich breakfast, you will receive an honorarium of EUR1000. Transport costs will be covered up to EUR500. You will receive EUR200 to pay for food expenses.
TYPE B
RESIDENCY ‘NEW WORK’
The goal of this one-week residency is to invite talented and experienced glassblowers to our glass studio to research and experiment with the focus on the creation of new work.
Stipend: You will receive free lodging, including a rich breakfast. Transport costs will be covered up to EUR500. You will receive EUR200 to pay for food expenses. In return we kindly ask you to create and donate one excellent work of art as a contribution to the city’s contemporary glass collection. You are free to pack and ship back all other works at your own expense.
Available hot glass facilities: Furnace (140 kg clear Preciosa Ornela glass), glory hole (Ø 50 cm, 70 cm deep) and annealers, blowpipes and glassblowing tools, gas/oxygen torch, colour rods and powders by Kugler and Reichenbach.

Please include: 1) A personal presentation with a short current curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages),
2) Up to 10 images indicating your technical skills and artistic talents.
3) When applying for TYPE A: Three proposals, with clear description and design drawings, for glass products in various price ranges which can be used to hand out as trophies or awards. Please also mention the estimated production time (duration) for each product. When applying for TYPE B: Residency proposals and a statement. A clear description and design drawing of the artwork you will create and donate as a contribution for the city’s contemporary glass collection.
4) Mention type of residency (A or B) and period(s) of preference.
