Program and Outreach Coordinator Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA)
22 hours per week, to be available Wednesday-Friday 10 am – 4 pm, and for evening and weekend programs
$18/hour + benefits + 3 weeks vacation/year
MAWA seeks a Program and Outreach Coordinator who will be responsible for the implementation, administration and coordination of most aspects of MAWA programming, as well as outreach.
The Program and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and facilitating the Foundation Mentorship Program and the Cross-Cultural Craft Program, as well as coordinating the Artist in Residence Program and all other programs. The Program and Outreach Coordinator will also work with groups who operate through MAWA, liaise with partnering organizations, and conduct outreach to community groups. In many cases, the Program and Outreach Coordinator will be the first contact between the public and MAWA: the welcoming face of MAWA. Daily arts administration, assisting with MAWA fundraisers, and participation on relevant MAWA committees is also part of the job.
The successful candidate will have strong leadership and facilitation skills, strong written and oral communication skills, strong time-management and organizational skills, and strong people skills. They must have extensive knowledge of the visual arts and engagement with the local visual arts community. It is important that they have experience working in an artist-run centre, experience with arts administration, experience with program delivery and pre-existing knowledge of MAWA.
At MAWA, the ability to organize tasks, manage work flow and problem-solve independently is essential. However, MAWA is very much a team, so the successful candidate must also work collaboratively. The Program and Outreach Coordinator will evaluate programs and meet with the Executive Directors to discuss potential innovations. The Program and Outreach Coordinator will also work closely with the Administration and Communications Coordinator, who is responsible for program promotion, volunteers and member services.
This position requires knowledge of Mac computer systems and Excel.
MAWA is an artist-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the intellectual and creative development of women in the visual arts by providing an ongoing forum for education and critical dialogue. Founded in 1985, MAWA currently has over 280 members. MAWA provides mentorships, workshops, lectures, artist talks, reading groups and informal networking opportunities to the visual arts community at large. Staff is comprised of two half-time Executive Directors, one half-time Program and Outreach Coordinator and one half-time Administration and Communications Coordinator. MAWA is wheelchair accessible.
