Opportunities include: Performing in collaboration with some of Winnipeg’s finest musicians, selling your wares in the Merchants Markets, and giving workshops, teaching and sharing your art.
The First Annual Winnipeg Crankie Festival takes place at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, September 21-23, 2018, a fund raiser for The Home Routes Folk School, which is a project of Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous, Canada’s house concert network. The festival features established and celebrated Folk Musicians from Winnipeg and beyond, including headlining acts from Winnipeg: The Small Glories; Del Barber; Scott Nolan; Red Moon Road; The D.Rangers and Nathan Rogers. As well, a feature performance by Al Simmons
It will also feature a day time schedule of musical Workshops, and workshops in Crankie making.
Crankies are a story-telling art form popular in the 19th Century and a forerunner of modern-day film, and the Crankie Festival is bringing together the finest from the Musical, Spoken Word and Visual Arts to introduce the community to “Crankies.” This will be a truly interactive and collaborative festival experience by offering a unique opportunity for all festival goers to participate on- and off-stage, in performances, jam sessions and workshops.
