Natural Dye Workshop with Tamara Klassen
Workshop Description:
In this workshop we will walk through the process of naturally dyeing yarn and textiles with dyes made from plants. We will discuss proper fibre preparation and mordanting techniques, steps to making a dye bath, color modification, as well as which plants work well as dyes (and which don’t!) We’ll also explore surface design techniques such as painting and printing with natural dyes and spend some time applying these methods to textiles.
You will go home with a dye journal filled with a variety of naturally dyed fibre samples, hand-painted textiles as well as tons of information that you can apply to your own projects.

Tamara Klassen is a textile artist from Southern Manitoba. After learning to sew from her grandmother at a young age, she developed a love for textiles early on. Tamara explores natural dye techniques and textile practices from both home and abroad and has studied with artisans in places such as Peru, Mexico, and Laos. In addition to participating in several shows and selling her work across Manitoba, Tamara has been teaching classes in textile arts since 2016.
