Lens Reflex
The Manitoba Craft Council has partnered with the Flash Photographic Festival to present Lens Reflex, a juried group exhibition exploring the intersection between fine craft and photography.
Fine craft has an emphasis on slow, controlled, technique focused handwork. While many craft mediums require extensive planning and methodical execution, photography offers opportunities for instant expression and experimentation. Photography offers controlled observation and, in the era of smartphone digital photography, immediate inexpensive documentation of our lives.
Participating artists Sarah Crawley, Janine-Annette Littmann, Nichol Marsch, Lesley Nakonechny, Grace Nickel, Willow Rector, Sandra Vincent, Tricia Wasney and Michael Zajac have found connections between photography and craft. Through celebrating the differences and elevating the similarities, their work has come together to showcase excellence in Manitoba Fine Craft.
We will be having an online panel discussion moderated by juror Leif Norman with participating artists Sarah Crawley and Nichol Marsch on August 21st, 2020 at 7:30pm. Join the livestream on the day by clicking the link here.
Lens Reflex was made possible through the generous support of the Arts Branch (Province of Manitoba), Canada Council for the Arts, Manitoba Arts Council and Winnipeg Arts Council.
