Communications and Gallery Assistant

Term: June 12-August 11, 2023
Hours:  30 hrs/week for 9 weeks (including Saturday shifts and occasional evenings)
Hourly wage: $16.15

The Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) is about craft: its makers and materials. We’re a member-centered, non-profit dedicated to promoting and supporting contemporary craft in Manitoba. Located in the C2 Centre for Craft in Winnipeg’s Historic Exchange District, MCC presents exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, sales, and events related to contemporary craft. We also have a shop (physical and online) featuring work by over 70 Manitoba-based craft artists.

You are a communications-focused young person with a passion for craft, art, and/or culture. You are keen to use your skills and training to support this province’s amazing craftspeople and the work they do. You are a creative and effective written communicator who is collaborative and self-motivated. You have an excellent eye for graphic design. You’re ambitious and excited to gain valuable, hands-on communications and public relations experience within a thriving arts organization. One-on-one training and mentoring through job shadowing will help you grow your skills and get the support you need.

Responsibilities will include:
-engagement with C2 shop and gallery visitors during public hours
-social media and website content development for the C2 Shop and MCC sales and member promotion initiatives
-implementation and promotion of MCC’s Maker Challenge online series
-creation of an online exhibition of work by young and emerging artists
-administrative support for Crafted 2023 and the MCC-IKEA Vinterfest Market
-documentation and crating of donated art works
-assistance at C2 Centre for Craft and MCC events
-light housekeeping tasks
-other duties as assigned

Eligibility:
Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years old
-Applicants must be a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee
