Manitoba Craft Museum and Library is looking for passionate craftspeople who are interested in sharing their knowledge and skills. We are accepting proposals for hands-on workshops on various craft techniques until July 26, 2023.
All applicants:
- should have knowledge, training, and technical ability in their craft medium
- be effective communicators with demonstrated teaching experience
We are prioritizing in-person workshops at this time, however, applicants are welcome to submit proposals for online/zoom workshops. We are particularly interested in programming that aligns with upcoming exhibitions. Celebrating Winnipeg 150, Craft and Health, and Historic Quilts are all exhibit topics anticipated for next year. Workshops related to these topics would be particularly interesting, however, we are definitely open to other topics as well!
Proposals for In-person workshops should:
- Represent a craft medium: ceramics, metal, textiles, books, paper, glass, wood, leather, etc.
- Focus on techniques that align with best practices in the media of choice
- Show a clear plan for teaching specific skills in a group setting
- Center around transferable skill-building rather than stand-alone, template projects. In-person workshops can be designed for participants with introductory, moderate, or advanced skill levels.
Successful applicants can expect:
- Fee paid to instructor: $75 per hour
- Workshops can be as short as 2 hours or up to 2-day workshops. Most are 3-6 hours.
- 10 participant maximum
- Usually, the instructor brings the workshop supplies and a supply kit fee (paid by the participant) is reimbursed to the instructor
- Workshops are held at C2 Centre for Craft
- MCML to assume all administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to all advertising and publicity, registration, and collection of fees
Interested applicants must provide:
- Name, contact information, and media of expertise
- Artistic CV highlighting your professional exhibition and teaching background
- An outline/plan for your workshop
- 5-10 images of your work (Please number images, as follows: JohnDoe1, JohnDoe2, etc. Please only include images that related to the techniques and materials used in the proposed workshop)
- A list of supplies and per student with the cost.
- Image list outlining titles of work (if applicable, materials and techniques used, date completed, etc.)
- Your availability to teach, by month
All submissions are reviewed by MCML’s Exhibits and Programming Committee.
Deadline – July 26, 2023
