CRAFTED SHOW + SALE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
APPLICATION DEADLINE: JUNE 14, 2024
Since 2015, CRAFTED has been Winnipeg’s premier sale of contemporary craft, drawing 3,500-4,000 visitors and approximately $400,000 in sales annually. Now in its tenth year, CRAFTED is proud to partner with Manitoba Craft Council (MCC), Northwest Territories Arts (NWT Arts), Nunavut Development Corporation (NDC), Avataq Cultural Institute, and the Nunatsiavut Government to host a runway show and in-person shopping experience throughout the galleries of WAG-Qaumajuq. Thanks to the dedication of our partner organizations, CRAFTED 2024 will gather fine craft artists and designers from Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Nunavik, and Nunatsiavut together to help craft artists connect with colleagues across the country, access vital income, and engage with an audience that is passionate about craft and supporting the people who make fine handmade goods. To support artists, CRAFTED maintains accessible participation fees and artists keep 100% of the profit from their sales.
ELIGIBLE WORK
RUNWAY SHOW
Submissions may be wearable works of art, ready to wear, traditional, or contemporary designs. Looks should be submitted as complete. The intention behind the runway show is to showcase the garments and accessories that will be available for purchase at the Show + Sale. Up to 25 designers will
be selected with priority being given to those who would like to vend at the market as well. A maximum of five designers may be selected who wish to participate in the Runway Show only. Work that is mass produced is not currently eligible.
LIVING LOOKBOOK
The intention behind the Living Lookbook is to allow fashion show attendees
a closer look at the accessories on the runway and highlight the artists who make them. The Living Lookbook also serves as a preview of some of the work that will be available for purchase at the Show + Sale. Show + Sale applicants who design and make wearable accessories (jewellery, bags, scarves, hats etc.) can submit an expression of interest for feature in the Living Lookbook. Living Lookbook accessories may also be featured in the runway show.
SHOW + SALE
Submissions of original work in any craft-based medium are welcome. Work may be primarily functional, decorative, or conceptual. Acceptable media include ceramics, glass, mixed media, wood, fibre/textiles, metals, jewellery, paper/books, beadwork, stone, etc. Work that is primarily 2-D (painting, photography) and consumables (candles, food, cosmetics, etc.) are not currently eligible.
APPLICATIONS
APPLICANTS NEED ONLY TO SUBMIT ONE APPLICATION. THERE IS NO FEE ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING.
SHOW + SALE APPLICANTS who design and make wearable accessories (jewellery, bags, scarves, hats etc.) can submit their expression of interest for feature in the Living Lookbook within the application.
FASHION SHOW APPLICANTS Please note, runway designers (garment designers + makers) can not currently apply to the Living Lookbook.
SELECTION PROCESS: A jury of peers and other professionals with expertise in a variety of craft media will be convened
to review all applications. Craft artists and fashion designers will be selected to participate based on the strength of their artwork/collections and robustness of their art practice. Works that showcase excellence in technique, originality, innovation, and aesthetic will be given priority. Project organizers will also be seeking to create a diverse group; craft artists and designers at varying stages of their careers, working in a range of media, and from a diversity of backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Achieving a balance of media and a mix of return and new artists/designers will be secondary considerations.
