Taanshi – Boozhoo – Hello – Bonjour
The Manitoba Craft Museum and Library invites Indigenous People currently living or visiting Winnipeg, on Treaty 1 Territory, to attend one of two free and in-person sessions to view work currently in the MCML collection.
Session 1 | Thursday February 20, 2025 | 7pm to 7:45pm & 8pm – 8:45pm
MCML collection holds several pieces in the Norway House embroidery style. These works are recognizable for its stylistic floral motifs similar to that Métis beading. Yet what makes the Norway House style unique is the detailed use of silk embroidery floss, mostly applied to moose and deer hides.
Session 2 | Sunday February 23, 2025 | 1pm – 1:45pm & 2pm – 2:45pm
MCML collection is home to several carvings from members of the Ministic Sculpture Co-operative. Consisting of twenty artists from Garden Hill First Nation these individuals learned traditional carving techniques from the Inuit artists of Kangiqtiniq (Rankin Inlet) in the late 1960s.
- We respectfully ask that only Indigenous participants register for these events.
- These events are free, but registration is required as capacity is limited to 15 people for each 45 minute session. There are two time slots for each session.
- If you need help with registering, please contact us at 204.615.3951 (Wed – Sat | noon – 4pm).
- Light refreshments provided.
