During the Second World War the Air Force Officers’ Wives club in Toronto initiated a fundraising project called the Famous Names Quilt. The project began with the collection of over 1,100 signatures, including celebrities such as Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, the Dionne quintuplets, Winston Churchill, and Mackenzie King. The signatures were then embroidered. Raffle tickets to win the quilt were sold and Mrs. Wengel from Manitoba won. In 1955 she donated the quilt to the Permanent Collection.
