Connie Chappel

Much of my work uses the geology of earth for exploring the cycle of things and the cultural relationship with nature that entwines a version of our existence: evolutionary, historical and current. My favoured materials include malleable paper pulp, repurposed objects, rock and branch mementos salvaged from my garden or travels, and organic fiber (sand, roots, fur, feathers, etc.). Ideas for my work often project from the unconscious into the physical world: metaphorical forms and objects process idiosyncratic discovery that conflates the ebb and flow within the Earth with that of human life. My work ranges widely among installation, attentively composed objects, rough-and-ready assemblages, photographs, prints and more.
