Murray Watson is a self-taught wood carver who’s career began as a hobby in 1988. He carves mostly in butternut and each carving is mounted on a piece of driftwood gathered from the banks or shores of Manitoba lakes and rivers. He won 1st Best of Show in 2002 at the Prairie Canada Carving Competition. You can also find his work at the Art Gallery at the Conservatory at Assiniboine Park. Murray sells many beautiful pieces including “Wood Spirits” that have a little story behind them…. “It is said that the forests will stand for as long as the Wood Spirit remains to keep order. If you are lucky enough to see one, health happiness and good fortune will be yours. When you are strolling in the woods, keep your eye out for the elusive Lords of the Forest.”
