I make custom keepsakes with human and pet hair, based on the historic craft of Victorian hairwork, which exploded in popularity during the 1800s. Hairwork was used to memorialize the dead as well as to celebrate friendship, romantic bonds and kinship between the living. My pieces honour those who have passed, celebrate milestones (first haircuts, etc), serve as unique visual family trees, or even wearable pieces of art.
I practice the “wirework” (hair woven with wire in loops) and “flatwork” (hair pasted and cut) styles of hairwork. The techniques I use are historic, but I bring my own modern perspective to this traditional art form. Available for commission work.
