Carving - Ivory Post/Sculpture – Poteau en ivoire

Half circle stone base with 4-sided ivory post on top. Each side of the post is decorated with drawings in ink of animals and hunters. ᓯᒥᐅᓂ etched onto bottom of base.

This object was possibly used to support a walrus tusk carving. From Inukjuak (Port Harrison), Nunavik, Quebec, by Weetaluktuk, Simeonie/

Socle en pierre en forme de demi-cercle avec un poteau en ivoire à quatre côtés au sommet. Chaque côté du poteau est décoré de dessins à l’encre représentant des animaux et des chasseurs. Inscription gravée sur le socle : ᓯᒥᐅᓂ.

Cet objet a probablement été utilisé pour soutenir une sculpture en défense de morse. Provenance : Inukjuak (Port Harrison), Nunavik, Québec
