As a prairie province, Manitoba has always recognized agriculture as a vital component of our landscape, culture, economy and identity. This artifact has its roots in the celebration of harvest – the events, superstitions, and traditions – that has been so important to people for generations. Corn dollies are thought to have originated as a way of saving the last piece of the harvest for the year to ensuring success the following year. The term corn is used in Britain as a general term for all grains and the word dollie is a corruption of the word idol.
