Drop Spindle – Guatamalan
This tool is made from a sharpened and fire-hardened piece of wood with a ceramic bead for a spindle whorl. Although weaving has diminished in recent years, many Guatemalans still produce their own spun cotton and wool. These threads and yarns are woven, often on a backstrap loom, to make clothing and rugs.
