Sampler – 1825
Most likely Margaret Hay would have stitched this sampler in the classroom. Samplers such as this were created in schools throughout Europe and North America during the 18th and 19th centuries. They were meant to help young girls hone their embroidery skills in preparation for marriage or careers as servants.
