2013 Saskatchewan Wearable Art Gala

The Board of the Jack Millikin Centre is pleased to announce a major fundraising event: a Saskatchewan Wearable Art Show and Gala that promises to be an evening unlike any other!
Artists from around the World are invited to submit works of wearable art to be unveiled in a fabulous fashion show setting on October 26, 2013 in Saskatoon.
Cash prizes will be awarded at the Gala Show and Party.
The Wearable Art Gala is primarily concerned with the creation of wearable items not traditionally, or typically, associated with clothing, fashion or “haute couture”. It is about the exploration of materials and methods not usually associated with fashion or clothing.
We want you to challenge yourself to be creative and inventive and to let your imagination run wild. The only pre-requisite is that the piece must be WEARABLE.

THE GALA PERFORMANCE

The Gala Performance will be “runway show” where the human body, dance, movement and wearable art will unite to create an expressive, living “canvas”.  The venue is the Vaughn Wyant Automotive Group Mercedes Showroom.  October 26, 2013 promises to be a really fun evening!

Delivery of Successful Entries:

IMPORTANT NOTES

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE WEARABLE.  Please keep in mind that the pieces will be presented on live models. They will need to withstand being put on and taken off for multiple fittings.  They will be shown in a “Runway Setting” in a car dealership amongst fancy cars.  The choreography may have the models moving between the vehicles so it would be wise to keep any structural elements under 6’ wide.
The jury reserves the right to REFUSE A PIECE IF THEY DEEM IT TO BE UNSUITABLE TO BE WORN, OR UNSAFE FOR THE LIVE MODELS OR AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
If your piece is too revealing, please supply a neutral coloured body suit, under-dress, tights and/or a tank top for the model to wear.
All accepted entries will be included in the awards performance.
Works must be original designs by the artist and/or artists involved.
Works must not have been previously shown in Saskatoon and area.
Works must have been completed after January 01st, 2012.
Collaborative works are acceptable (include the names of all participating artists).
All pieces MUST be ready to wear.  NO ASSEMBLING can be done by the Gala Performance staff or the volunteers during the gala performance on 26 October 2013.
Please see the website for the Jack Millikin Centre for full details.
