Artist Statement
My base to pursue GLASS as a fascinating artistic medium was established @ the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland.  The exchange of ideas with professors and fellow students gave me lifetime abilities to be able to work in ART independently.  GLASS is my primary medium, it is an intriguing substance to work with, however I tend to use other materials (wood, fabric, metal) to enhance my work. My expressions look like modern collages. I find inspiration in the natural environment, where a diversity of creatures live together within the concept of SYMBIOSIS.  “Creating” is the most attractive profession for all of us. I am privileged to be able to speak “ARTistic” way…
Bio
Jolanta Sokalska was born in Lublin, Poland, and studied at the Lyceum of Fine Arts until 1976.  After this, she specialized in Glass Design at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she credits the influence of Alojzy Gryt.  Jolanta has lived in both Europe and North America, and these experiences have inspired her art pursuits.  She has been creating art independently since her graduation in 1984.
First Fridays in the Exchange is dedicated to bringing together artists, artist run centres, galleries, businesses and the public for a greater understanding, appreciation and promotion of the arts and the further development of a vital Exchange Area community.  See the full listings at here.
