Small Mediums, Big Impact

Small Mediums at Large opened last night at the Tara Davis Studio Boutique in Winnipeg.  The event was super well attended, and of course it was fun to see so many new faces and meet all of the artists in this year’s juried show, at least one of whom I’d never met before (Hi Jan!).

While the work is small,  the technical and conceptual excellence of it equals a big impact. The cozy space combined with the diminutive scale of the work lent a wonderful intimacy to the exhibition, creating a setting that encouraged visitors to get close to the pieces.  Thanks so much to Tara Davis and Barb Hunt who were instrumental to the successful installation of the show, and to Kevin Conlin who, along with Tara and Barb, were the exhibition’s jurors.
Congrats, too, to Peter Tittenberger, the recipient of two awards at last night’s opening:  The Marilyn Levitt Award for Functional Pottery and the Judith Ryan Award for Best in Show.  One of his stunning pieces is pictured below.

Summer is fully here (thank goodness Tara’s shop has AC!) and it’s time for a little staff vacation.  Tammy will be back in the office on July 22 and Anastasia will return as of July 17.  Flashback Fridays will be on hold until August and there will be a little less online activity than usual.
But in the meantime, the show will go on – the juried exhibition will be in Tara’s space at 246 McDermot Ave until July 27, so stop by, say hi, and enjoy the amazing work.
