Call for Submissions :: First Fridays at MCC

For the past two years, the MCC has been opening its office/gallery wall to the public and featuring our members work as part of First Fridays in the Exchange.  With attendance at First Fridays growing (averaging in at around 70-75 visitors over the past 4 evenings), it’s a great opportunity to get your craft work in the public eye.
The MCC is now inviting applications from its membership for the 2014-2015  period.  If selected, your job is to install your artwork, be present on the First Friday of your assigned month to greet visitors and talk about your work, and take it all down at month’s end.  Oh, and deposit the $100 artist fee into your bank account.
First Fridays are for emerging craft artists looking to have their first show, more established artists who want to display a small body of work, and those seeking more public exposure or a deadline to motivate them.  All current MCC members are eligible to apply.  Featured artists will be selected by a small committee of their peers.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Sept 5, 2014

Functional, decorative and/or conceptual work in any craft-based media are welcome.  Due to space limitations and the functional nature of the office, submitted work should be able to hang on the wall, be displayed on shelves attached to the wall or, in the case of floor pieces or furniture, not extend more than .5 m from the wall.  Work shown will have been created within the past three years.
To apply, send the following via email to submissions@localhost:8888 (with First Fridays – Your Name in the subject line):

  • your contact information
  • 3-5 images of your work.  Use jpeg files.  A resolution of 300 dpi at approx. 4 x 6” is ideal.  Please number each image and provide a corresponding image list.
  • a numbered image list including title, media, date and dimensions.
  • a brief artist statement describing your work or practice (approx. 50-100 words)
  • a brief bio (approx. 50-100 words)
