2014 Juried Exhibition :: Vote Today!

As many of you will be aware, the Manitoba Craft Council hosts a juried exhibition of contemporary craft every year.  A loose theme is selected and a call for entries goes out to the public.  MCC members and craftspeople at large put on their thinking caps, roll up their sleeves, and get to work.  Many excellent submissions come in and a jury meets to select the entries that will be included in that year’s exhibition.
In the coming months, I’ll be posting more information about the 2014 Juried Exhibition in particularI’ll also be answering some of your questions about preparing submissions, how the jurying process works, strategies for packing art/craft work, what the different types of exhibitions are, etc.  In the meanwhile, let me introduce our 2014 Juried Show and invite your participation in a unique lead up to the call for entry process…

This year, the Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) and the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library (MCML) are joining forces to present a Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Craft inspired by works in the MCML collection.  We need your help to narrow the field of historical works from the 22 presented in the poll (link below) – only 12 will make the cut and go on to serve as the creative launch pad for the 2014 Juried Show.  Choose your top five – the works you’d most like to see featured in the show and that you believe have the potential to inspire today’s makers in their own creative processes.
The final exhibition will feature the top 12 historical works alongside approximately 15 contemporary craft works inspired by them.  The exhibition will take place in summer/fall 2014 at the Quarry Park Heritage Arts Centre (Stonewall, MB) and the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library gallery.  Poll closes Dec 15, 2013 so get your vote in today!
