Craft Ontario is committed to fostering a new generation of craft professionals. Materialize offers an opportunity for the next up-and-coming set of makers to share their work. We want to see what you’re doing, what you’re thinking about, and the amazing objects that you make!

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • The Materialize call for entry is open to emerging makers only – specifically those in the early years of their professional careers who may still be undertaking undergraduate or graduate studies and have a small exhibition record. Applicants must have less than 5 years of professional practice to qualify as an emerging maker.
  • Works in all craft-related media will be accepted for review by the jury.
  • Each applicant may submit a maximum of three works.
  • A set of multiples (such as a sculptural group) will be considered as a single work.
  • All submitted work must have been made within the last two years.
  • Submissions must include a completed call for entry form document, artist statement, Curriculum Vitae, as well as digital images of the work to be reviewed (please see page 2 for more details).
  • Submissions must be accompanied by the call for entry fee. The fee for active Craft Ontario members is $20, and $70 for non-members.
  • Late or incomplete entries will not be accepted.
  • Acceptance into the Materialize exhibition grants Craft Ontario a non-exclusive, non-transferable world- wide license to use the submitted digital images and accompanying information, in conjunction with the applicant’s name, to promote her or his work, and Craft Ontario as a whole.
  • Submission to the Materialize call for entry indicates that the applicant agrees to the terms and conditions of the exhibition as outlined on the Craft Ontario website and call for entry documents.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION

  • Jurors will be looking for innovative work that successfully combines technical skill with function and concept.
  • Works included in the exhibition must be for sale, and will be sold under the Craft Ontario Gallery consignment agreement of 50% for the exhibitor and 50% for the Gallery.
  • The Exhibitor will be responsible for insuring all work during shipping and delivery. Craft Ontario will insure all work for theft and damage while on the Gallery premises.
  • Works accepted for exhibition will be delivered/shipped to the Craft Ontario Gallery at the Exhibitor’s expense by Saturday, May 24, 2014, 6:00pm. At the conclusion of the exhibition the Exhibitor will be responsible for picking up or shipping all unsold work from the Gallery by Saturday, July 26th 2014, 6:00pm.

TIME LINE

  • DEADLINE: Applications must be submitted online to Craft Ontario through Dropbox no later than April 25, 2014.
  • NOTIFICATION: All applicants will be notified of the jury’s decision via email by Friday, May 9, 2014.
  • DELIVERY: Accepted works must arrive at the Craft Ontario Gallery no later than Saturday, May 24, 2014, 6:00pm.
  • DATES AND OPENING RECEPTION: The exhibition will take place Thursday, May 29 to Saturday, July 19, 2014, with the opening reception taking place on Thursday, May 29,  6:00 – 9:00pm.
  • Craft Ontario members are required to pay a $20 fee, and non-members are required to pay a $70 fee.
  • Fees are non-refundable.

CALL FOR ENTRY:
In a Word or PDF document, please include the following:

  • First and last name
  • Full mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • Email
  • Membership number (if applicable)
  • Method, date and amount of call for entry fee payment

In the same document, for each work that you are submitting (with a maximum of 3), please include the following:

  • Entry number (i.e. 1 to 3)
  • Title of work
  • Medium and technique
  • Dimensions
  • Date
  • Retail price
  • Digital image numbers (you may submit up to 4 images per work, with a maximum
    total of 12 images).

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Select up to four professional digital images per work.
  • Prepare images by using the following specifications: 72 – 300 dpi, in .jpg format and with the longest side equaling or exceeding 1000 pixels. Your image files should be about 1 MB in size each – please do not exceed 5 MB in size.
  • Format your image file names without spaces or capitalization. The format should be as follows: the first 3 letters of your first name followed by the first 3 letters of your last name, then underscore “_”, and finally the number of the image from 01 to 12. Examples for ‘Jane Smith’: jansmi_01.jpg, jansmi_02.jpg, jansmi_03. jansmi_04, etc.

ARTIST STATEMENT AND CURRICULUM VITAE

  • In a Word or PDF document, submit a 150 – 250 word Artist Statement.
  • Please follow the Statement with a compiled list of your professional practice background and achievements (Curriculum Vitae). For example, please include details on your education (this can include college and university, apprenticeships or workshops), any exhibitions that you have participated in, and any awards or recognition that you have received for your work.
