2014 GO Places Ceramics Artist Residency – Washington

Located in the historic Stewart building in beautiful downtown Ellensburg, Gallery One Visual Arts Center is the focal point for artists, art patrons, students, community members, and tourists to interact with the visual arts in Central Washington State. Gallery One Visual Arts Center is dedicated to the creation, exhibition and appreciation of visual arts in Central Washington. To that end, the facilities, board of directors, and staff of Gallery One provide:

In addition to rotating exhibits of contemporary art in three galleries, Gallery One offers a variety of quarterly classes, an art after school program for kids, a gift store featuring regional artisans, a full ceramics studio available for classes or private rentals, inexpensive studio spaces for artists and facility rentals for the community.

About the studio: The ceramics resident’s studio will be placed in the public ceramics studio at Gallery One. The studio has three electric kilns, cone 6 glazes, 10 electric wheels, one kick wheel, an extruder and a slab roller.  The resident will have 24 hour access to the public studio.
The ceramics studio has many amenities to offer the ceramic artist and offers direct access to the students and community to a professional artist. 
Residency Details 
Residencies are to take place during the months of June-October for a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of four weeks.
The selected artist will be provided with:

  • A monetary stipend of $1000 for one to three weeks to cover lodging, travel and other amenities.
  • 24 hr access to a studio space during residency.
  • Recognition of achievement in press releases, advertising and promotional materials, and on our website.


Artist is responsible for all transportation costs, including arrival and departure to each community and personal expenses including food during the residency. Gallery One will assist in finding appropriate accommodations. In exchange for:

  • Two free demonstrations/ talk scheduled during residency. (Resident will have an option to offer a paid workshop for additional income.)
  • Samples of work made during residency for use in Gallery One’s public auction or collection.


ELIGIBILITY: The GO Places Artist-in-Residence program is open to all professional artists over 18 years of age and who apply within the deadline period. The residency is limited to artists who work in ceramics. Selection is solely based on merit, without regard to sex, race, creed, religion, national origin, employer, or physical ability. Gallery One employees, family of employees or board members cannot apply.

TO APPLY: Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2014. Applications should be accompanied by up to 10 images, your resume showing relevant previous work and achievement, and your project proposal. A panel consisting of Julia Galloway, Stephen Robison, a community representative, and staff will select the GO Places Artist-in-Residence. Notification will be made by May 31st, 2014
Applicants are required to submit:

  •  up to 10 digital samples of work
  • A resume of relevant work experience and achievements.
  •  A proposal of objectives
