This lovely printing block is number 6 in the countdown to Backspace Forward, the 2014 Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Craft being jointly produced by the Manitoba Craft Council and the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library.
The Crafts Guild of Manitoba, established as a branch of the Canadian Handicrafts Guild in 1928, used this as their logo during their early years. As is often the case, the printing block is as beautiful and as much a work of art as the printed works they were created to pull. The small size of this piece was what struck me first upon an in person viewing – only 2-3 inches square.
