5 || Countdown to Backspace Forward

Number 5 – The donor for this runner indicated that the piece is from Egypt, but after further research we were able to determine that it was likely from India where embroidery with mirrors is very common.  It was also common in the 1920s for Indian work to be imported to Egypt.
1. Embroidered Egyptian Runner. Wine coloured hand woven linen, embellished with surface embroidery and small mirrors. C. late 19th century. Craftsperson unknown.

The piece is worked on heavy hand spun and hand woven linen, and embroidered in silk. The mirrors are attached using the Shisha technique.  C. late 19th century, craftsperson unknown.
