GOAL: The goal of the catalog and exhibition is to showcase the breadth and depth of contemporary fiber arts.
JUROR/CURATOR: Namita Gupta Wiggers, curator-at-large, writer and co-founder/director of Critical Craft Forum will select work that provides meaningful answers to the question:
“What do textiles/fibers and their associated processes offer artists that cannot be achieved in other media?”
Makers are encouraged to submit work of any size or format that demonstrates innovative use of textile media. Any textile technique or material is acceptable, including the use of nontraditional materials and time arts, such as video and sound. Works should be completed on or after January 1, 2013. SDA encourages established, emerging and student artists to participate.
CATALOG + EXHIBITION: A single juror/curator will select all work for inclusion in a comprehensive print catalog with full and detailed images as well as artist statements and essays addressing context and evolution of contemporary textile arts. A group of these works will be selected for installation in Materialities exhibition.
DIGITAL CATALOG FREE TO MEMBERS: All SDA members may download the complete catalog from SDA website. Members whose work is selected will receive one complimentary print copy of the catalog. Additional copies will be available at a nominal cost from SDA Marketplace.
