Arts & Disability Network Manitoba invites all artists to submit applications to participate in the Wayfinding Project.
Project Description: Commissioned street artpiece/performance
In architecture, Wayfinding is a term that refers to the user experience of navigating a path within the built environment using sensory cues from one’s external surroundings.
The Exchange District, AKA the ‘art district’, is made up of old turn-of-the-century buildings with little or no access for artists and audiences with mobility issues.  ADNM is calling for proposals that offer creative ways to divert traffic from the “main”, inaccessible entrance of Fleet Galleries, 65 Albert Street, to a more inclusive accessible entrance – through the back alley, through a window, through another building. All possibilities will be considered!
The “new and improved” entrance should strive to include the five senses -sound, sight, smell, touch and taste (OK, we can be flexible on the last one) – to inform, direct and engage patrons in an artful and creative way, while also demonstrating the practical needs of people with disabilities.
This project is generously sponsored by the Winnipeg Arts Council and Windsor Plywood.
