GREAT WHITE NORTH: TORONTO & MONTREAL

Great White North, Toronto & Montreal

DEADLINE: August 2nd, 2016

The Great White North exhibition theme for 2016 is: IN FLUX. It will be an exhibition that asks artist to confront, critique and challenge the concept of Canada’s national identity. Artists must ask themselves what it means to be Canadian and thus create a piece that demands the same from the viewer/wearer. Explore the concept of cultural fluidity in historical, present or future terms, perhaps through a personal or familial lens. Artists are invited to submit up to two pieces that seek to answer the question : who are we, where have we been and who do we hope to become?

18Karat is proud to present The Great White North Exhibition, an exhibition aimed at showcasing the very best of contemporary Canadian jewellery, both locally as well as nationally and beyond. Pieces included in this exhibition are to be created specifically; inspired by a particular theme (see below) chosen to represent a facet of Canada – an exhibition of jewellery inspired by and made in Canada. Each piece within this exhibition will be presented before a jury of peers; multi-disciplinary artists and designers who will be given the task of choosing those pieces that best represent the epitome of contemporary Canadian jewellery – both in technical abilities and design innovation.
