JEUX DE LA FRANCOPHONIE, ABIDJAN

Artists 18 – 35 in a variety of cultural endeavors are invited to apply to participate in the Juex de la Francophonie, set to take place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivorie in 2017. The event includes sculpture and installation.

The Canada Council for the Arts is committed to equity and inclusion, and welcomes applications from diverse Aboriginal, cultural and regional communities, and from people with disabilities.

The competitions for the Games of La Francophonie will identify the artists who may make up Team Canada at the VIIIth Games of La Francophonie to be held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from July 21st to 30th, 2017.
The Games, which take place every four years, have previously been hosted by Morocco, France (Paris and Nice), Madagascar, Canada, Niger and Lebanon. They are the only major international games to combine cultural and sporting competitions, culminating in a celebration of youth and the international Francophonie. As with the athletes, gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the three winners of each competition.
Since Canada and the governments of Québec and New Brunswick are all members of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, the Canadian delegation to the Games of La Francophonie will be composed of three teams: Team Canada, Team Canada-Québec and Team Canada-New Brunswick.
The Department of Canadian Heritage is responsible for the preparation of Team Canada to participate in the VIII Games of La Francophonie and has commissioned the Canada Council for the Arts with the national preselection for the cultural component.
