Fiber Art Now: Excellence in Fibers 2016

Excellence in Fibers 2016
Because of the vast response to the first Excellence in Fibers exhibition, we have established a more refined approach for Excellence in Fibers 2016, to better identify the range of the makers and their intent. Therefore, we have established five categories to narrow the entry focus. The final exhibition catalog will be expanded to make a larger publication and include more of the selected works. Prizes will be given in every category. This will allow for a more comprehensive exhibition and increased opportunities for the artists.
There will be a $300 prize for each category, with a $600 Best of Show prize chosen from all entries. This more than doubles the available prizes compared to EIF 2015. In each category, 12 works will be selected. This is twice the number of selected works as EIF 2015.
The function emphasis on EIF 2016 puts the focus on the makers’ intentions and can incorporate the vast range of fiber mediums.

REMINDER
What is fiber art?
Art that is created using natural or synthetic fibers or techniques that are traditionally thought of as relating to fiber, such as sewing or weaving. Only one of these – fiber materials or fiber techniques -must be present for work to fall into the broad category known as “fiber art.” While contemporary fiber art is often preoccupied with materiality and technique, it’s important to also remember that the best work in fiber, like any medium, has observations, themes, or concepts at its core.
