2016 BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD: ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

2016 BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD – CALL FOR PROPOSALS
In 2015, The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design (CCCD) launched a new program series titled Back to the Drawing Board, which saw six artists take over Benchspace Gallery & Workshop to create interactive installations, performances, and other experimental activities. Artists included Tanya Aguiñiga, David Wilson, Mark Reigelman II, Jennifer Bueno, Aram Han, and Cheyenne Rudolph. Videos of their performances, happenings, and workshops are available at: vimeo.com/centerforcraft.
This year, CCCD is pleased to continue Back to the Drawing Board as a featured program of its 20th Anniversary celebration to be held on August 11, 2016. Three selected projects will be staged throughout CCCD’s three-story building at 67 Broadway Street in downtown Asheville, North Carolina.
PURPOSE
To provide a provocative backdrop for artists, makers, designers, and performers to engage the public in critical dialogue about craft, design, and the creative process across disciplines.
GOALS
• To support innovative makers in projects involving some aspect of visitor engagement
• To provide a platform for experiments in craft and performance art • To expose the design/making process
• To provide a space for public testing of new ideas
• To celebrate CCCD’s 20th Anniversary in a way that reflects our commitment to innovative and thoughtful making and engagement
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
For 20 years, CCCD has nurtured innovative, thoughtful, and interdisciplinary making. We will celebrate by spotlighting three selected projects to be staged within assigned spaces throughout CCCD’s three- story building during our 20th Anniversary celebration.
These works are intended to provoke conversation, expose process, and invite participation. Local and national artists aim to make the invisible creative process visible and provide a venue for experimentation, collaboration, failure, and innovation. The format of these takeovers is decided by the maker, and may be a performance, installation, or participatory exhibition.
Each takeover will occur from 7-10 pm, Thursday August 11, 2016
