Programme and Gallery Assistant
Term: June 22 to August 23, 2016 (9 weeks)
Hours: 40 hrs/week
Hourly wage: $13.00

The Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) is a member-centered, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Contemporary Craft in Manitoba since its inception in 1978.
The MCC is seeking an arts-focused, post-secondary student to fill the position of Gallery and Programme Assistant. Students in the fields of Fine Arts/Crafts, Visual Arts, Curatorial/Museum Studies, Arts Education/Management, and Graphic Design and Communications are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be judged on their ability to communicate effectively, think creatively, act responsibly and demonstrate professionalism. The Gallery and Programme Assistant position is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable, hands-on experience within a thriving arts organization. The successful candidate will receive training and mentoring through job shadowing and one-on-one contact with the Director.
Responsibilities will include:
-exhibition and event planning and coordination
-member services including renewals, outreach to new members, and assisting members with developing online portfolios
-communications including the production of an enewsletter and content development for social media and website
-administrative duties including answering phone calls and email, updating databases, processing invoices, preparing correspondence and providing support to the Director and other staff.
-MCC is anticipating a move into a new facility in fall 2016. The summer employee’s role will therefore include tasks related to the move including sorting, archiving, and packing as well as assisting with the planning of new programme initiatives enabled by the new space.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years old and legally eligible to work in Canada.
Applicants must be registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
