Glenfiddich® Artist in Residence

Glenfiddich® Single Malt Whisky is issuing an Open Call to Artists currently living and working in Canada to enter the internationally renowned competition for the prestigious 2017 Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Prize.
The Canadian winner will be one of eight artists worldwide to be awarded the coveted prize to live and work at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. The three-month summer residency is valued at $20,000 CDN per artist. Now in its 16th year, the program covers the cost of travel, living expenses and materials throughout the residency.
While living in crofts (traditional small Scottish farm houses), artists are encouraged to take inspiration from the unique setting in the Scottish Highlands. The experience provides an opportunity unlike any other for artists to work in an international community, share in a dialogue with other artists and foster cross-disciplinary ideas.
A distinguished jury selects from approximately 200 submissions each year and creates a list of ten finalists. The 2017 jury includes Dr. Sara Diamond, President of OCAD University; Crystal Mowry, Senior Curator at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery; Michelle Jacques, Chief Curator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria; Kristy Trinier, Director of Visual, Digital and Media Arts at the Banff Centre; Ivan Jurakic, Director of the University of Waterloo Art Gallery; Stefan Hancherow, independent curator and Director of the 2015 Feature Art Fair, and the Canadian 2008 Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence Prize recipient, Dave Dyment.
From the shortlist, the Glenfiddich® Artists in Residence program curator Andy Fairgrieve selects the winner, who will be announced in March 2017.
The Glenfiddich® Artist-in-Residence Prize has sponsored over a hundred artists since its inception in 2002. Past Canadian recipients have included artists working in a wide range of disciplines, including Daniel Barrow, Myfanwy MacLeod, Damian Moppett, Annie Pootoogook, and Eleanor King (pictured above, second from the left), who spent her time in Dufftown last summer living without any technology created after 1900.
Online submissions open Wednesday, December 7, 2016 and must be received by midnight (Eastern Standard Time) Wednesday, January 25, 2017 (Robbie Burns day).
