CRAFTED Show + Sale 2017: Calling all Artists

 
CRAFTED now has three ways for artists to participate: be a vendor, facilitate a workshop, or host a live craft demonstration. Submission deadline is May 1, 2017. Apply today! Download application information here or read below.

1. APPLY TO BE A VENDOR
CRAFTED: Show + Sale presents unique handmade works by over 50 craft artists and artisans. We welcome submissions of original work in any craft-based medium, whether functional, decorative, or conceptual. Media may include ceramics, glass, mixed media, wood, fibre/textiles, metals/ jewellery, paper, and stone.
How to Apply: submit via email to [email protected]

  • your name, address, phone number, email address, and media category (ceramics, fibre, glass, metals, mixed media, paper, wood, or stone)
  • six jpegs of your work (300dpi, rgb, approx 10 x 10 in.)
  • word document providing titles, media, and retail prices of your work (eg. winegoblet1.jpg, Wine Goblet, wood fired porcelain, $45 each)
  • 100 word artist bio (in same word document)
  • one jpeg image representative of your display style

Cost

  • $120*: 8 foot table (MCC members) become a member at localhost:8888/join
  • $150*: 8 foot table (non-MCC members)
  • + $20 electrical service (limited number available)
    * Increased by $20 this year to cover the additional amenity of a table cloth that fits and covers an 8 foot table to the floor

Application Process

  • applicants will be notified of selection by May 31, 2017
  • if payment is not received by June 9, 2017, the space will be reassigned

2. APPLY TO FACILITATE A WORKSHOP
Our DIY workshops have always been a big hit with CRAFTED visitors. This year, we’re putting out a call to find at least five artist instructors to lead three-hour workshops that give participants a handmade item to take home.
How to Apply: submit via email to [email protected]

  • your name, address, phone number, and email address
  • a workshop proposal including run time, craft item to be made, an explanation of materials required, a kit fee amount to cover the cost of materials, and all information potential students need to know
  • 1-3 jpg images (300dpi) representative of the materials to be provided as well as the finished product

Payment: instructors will be paid $300 to teach the workshop
Application Process: selected workshop instructors will be notified by May 31, 2017
 
3. APPLY TO GIVE A LIVE CRAFT DEMO
Further enhancing the connection between visitor and maker, CRAFTED 2017 will feature a live craft demonstration area. We are seeking six-to-eight artists to conduct demos over the course of the two-day event.

  • your name, address, phone number, and email address
  • a brief description of what you hope to demonstrate; the optimal length of time required for your set up, tear down, and demonstration; and any set up requirements

Payment: artists will receive a $100 honorarium
Application: selected artists will be notified by May 31, 2017
Artists may apply to be a vendor, a workshop instructor, and a demonstration facilitator. Participating CRAFTED vendors are responsible for finding someone to mind their table while leading a workshop and/or giving a demonstration.
JURY
The CRAFTED Committee serves as jurors for the selection process. Priority will be given to work that showcases excellence in technique, originality, innovation, and aesthetic.
NORTHERN CONNECTION
To ensure the show reflects the breadth of relationships the WAG enjoys with artisans in the community, a select number of artists from Nunavut, Nunatsiavut, and the Northwest Territories will be invited to participate.
PROMOTION
For consistent messaging, artisans will be given materials to publicize the event through their own contacts and social media channels. It is understood and agreed by the participating artisans that images and biographical information submitted with this application may be used for promotional purposes.

Together with Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG), Nunavut Arts and Craft Council (NACA), and Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador (CCNL) we’re thrilled to present the third juried craft show + sale at the WAG.
