MCML Heritage Gallery:
Celebrate Canadian cultural diversity and the 90thAnniversary of the founding of the Crafts Guild of Manitoba through a new exhibit curated by the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library. In 1928 a New Canadian Folksong and Handicrafts Festival, organized by the Guild and the Canadian Pacific Railway, sought to provide a venue for new and established Canadians to get acquainted. The festival included 13 different nations, with their art, music, culture on display. Our exhibit pays homage to this original festival and also showcases craft from Canadian newcomers.
#366Hooks is an exhibition of work from one (leap) year in the life of blacksmith Matt Jenkins of Cloverdale Forge. In this collection, the hook is both motif and muse for Jenkins as he seeks creative inspiration through a “hook-a-day” project he could sink his hammer into. #366Hooks is an exploration of the materials, tools, and techniques of blacksmithing circa 1850 reinterpreted through a contemporary lens and shared through daily Instagram posts.
Cloverdale Forge will be demonstrating copper and steel metalsmithing techniques within the gallery to compliment #366Hooks exhibition currently on display. Come watch Matt swing his hammer!

Start your Winnipeg Nuit Blanche off with an Electronic Dance Music bang! The Manitoba Craft Council is holding an EDM blacklight knitting party. Bring your own yarn or use some that is provided (we’ll make sure it glows!). Don’t know how to knit? No worries! Volunteers will be teaching intro stitches or you can dance to the sick beats.
Dust off those knitting needles for a night out on the town at the C2 Centre for Craft, 329 Cumberland Ave. 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Neon attire encouraged!
