MCC’s Lens Reflex Juried Exhibition

Call for Submissions:
Lens Reflex Juried Exhibition
Deadline: November 8th, 2019

About the Show:

Lens Reflex is a juried exhibition of contemporary craft being produced by the Manitoba Craft Council in partnership with the FLASH Photographic Festival.   It will be on display at the C2 Centre for Craft in the spring of 2020.

Lens Reflex will investigate: What is the intersection and connection of photography and craft? At first glance these two mediums may seem entirely unrelated, but with some reflection connections can be found. This show will display a variety of original craft works created in response to the overlapping concepts of Photography and Craft.

We welcome submissions in a variety of media and approaches to this topic. Artists are encouraged to consider unique connections based on their own creative practices.

Some ideas to consider:

  • How can craft infuse context into a photograph? How does a photograph imbue meaning into craft?
  • What is the relationship between digital photography and digital craft processes?
  • What is the relationship between photography and craft in ephemeral or site-specific craft?
  • How has the prevalence and accessibility of digital photography shifted its presence in the studio?
  • How can photographic tools, machines and processes be incorporated into craft? The design of cameras, film grain, black and white aesthetics, optics and lenses…
