Gallery and Programme Assistant

Term: June 15-August 7, 2020

Hours:  30 hrs/week for 8 weeks (some Saturday shifts and evenings required)

Hourly wage: $13.65

The Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) is a member-centered, non-profit organization

dedicated to promoting contemporary fine craft in Manitoba.  Located in the C2 Centre for Craft, MCC presents exhibitions, artist talks, workshops and events related to contemporary craft.

The MCC is seeking an arts/craft focused, post-secondary student to fill the position of Gallery and Programme Assistant.  Students in the fields of Fine Arts/Crafts, Visual Arts, Curatorial/Museum Studies, Arts Education/Management, and Graphic Design and Communications are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be judged on their ability to communicate effectively, think creatively, act responsibly and demonstrate professionalism. The Gallery and Programme Assistant position is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable, hands-on experience within a thriving arts organization. The successful candidate will receive training and mentoring through job shadowing and one-on-one contact with the Director and other staff.

 

Responsibilities will include:

-welcoming shop and gallery visitors

-development of member profiles on Citizens of Craft web portal

-assisting with exhibition prep, install, and de-installation

-assisting at C2 Centre for Craft and MCC events, both on and off-site

-social media and website content development

-archival research and documentation

-administrative duties including answering phone calls and email, updating databases, processing invoices, preparing correspondence and providing support to the Director and other staff.

-light housekeeping and janitorial tasks

-other duties as assigned

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years old and legally eligible to work in Canada.

Applicants must be registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
